Sheet metal assembly fastens fabricated parts, hardware, and purchased components into one finished unit in a set order. K-Display, a Chicago sheet metal fabricator, assembles enclosures, door subassemblies, and carts from your drawing and bill of material, and kits racks and panel sets with their hardware.

## Overview
Assembly joins steel, stainless steel, and aluminum parts, bare or powder coated, with their hardware and purchased components, one fastener at a time in a set order, until the unit closes and mounts. It leaves built, or as the parts of one unit packed together. Hardware installation presses self-clinching nuts and studs, which lock into the sheet without a nut behind it, before the coat, and fits hinges, latches, and handles after the cure.

## Materials
- Carbon steel
- Galvanized steel
- Galvanneal
- Stainless steel
- Aluminum

## Applications
- Knocked-down racks with their bolts and connection hardware kitted, so a bay goes together at your plant.
- Machine panel sets labeled by machine, so each machine's covers arrive together.
- Rolling carts assembled with the casters on the frame, so the cart rolls on arrival.
- Door subassemblies marked left or right, so the two sides are not mixed at your line.

## Process
- Gather the parts: We collect the formed parts, hardware, and purchased components for one unit at the revision on your drawing.
- Fasten the joints: We fasten the parts to each other one joint at a time and fit a cart's casters to its frame.
- Mark and label: We mark each closed unit left or right and label its carton with the part number on your drawing.
- Pack: We pack each unit built, or the parts and bolts of one unit together in a carton.

## Design considerations
A screw behind a flange, the bent-up edge of a panel, or behind a mating panel cannot be reached with a driver once the unit is closed, so it cannot be tightened at the build or removed in service. We drive every fastener from the one side the drawing leaves open. A bracket bolted inside a box has to go in before the cover closes over it, so the order the parts join is set by which fastener the next part would bury. Where the drawing gives an order we follow it, and where it gives none we join the parts in the order that leaves every fastener reachable. A kit that is one bolt short stops the…

## FAQ
**What should an assembly package include?**
Send the top-level assembly model, part drawings, revision, bill of material, hardware and component part numbers, supply responsibility, installation requirements, finish, marking, inspection, and packaging needs.

**Can K-Display install customer-supplied components?**
Customer-supplied components can be reviewed. Identify the approved part, quantity, delivery timing, installation location, and acceptance requirements in the package.

**Can finished assemblies be labeled and packaged?**
Yes. Labels, decals, graphics, kitting, and packaging can be coordinated when those requirements are defined in the approved package.
