K-Display in Chicago cuts, forms, and welds L, Z, U, offset, and gusseted mounting brackets from sheet to your model or drawing. Brackets ship loose, as welded assemblies, or powder coated with self-clinching hardware installed.

## Overview
We cut and form L, angle, Z, offset, and U brackets from aluminum, carbon steel, galvanized steel, galvannealed steel, or stainless steel, and weld gussets and joints in carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum. Brackets ship loose, as welded assemblies, or powder coated with self-clinching hardware installed. Flat parts that carry a hole pattern are Mounting & Backing Plates, and small brackets for a sensor or a cable run are Cable & Sensor Brackets.

## Process
- Cut the flat pattern: We laser cut the flat pattern from your model.
- Form and weld: We press in any hardware that forming would close over, form the flanges on tooling suited to the material and radius, and weld gussets and joints.
- Finish and ship: We press in the remaining fasteners, mask threads and bare faces, powder coat, and ship the bracket loose, as a weldment, or coated with hardware installed.

## Typical parts
- L, angle, and corner brackets: Single-bend and multi-bend brackets cut and formed from your flat pattern or model, with self-clinching nuts and studs pressed in where a flange is too thin to tap.
- Z, offset, and U brackets: Offset, joggle, and channel forms that step a component off a surface or straddle a member.
- Gusseted and welded brackets: Brackets stiffened with welded gussets or formed return flanges, or joined from several pieces where one bend cannot reach the geometry, including brackets that carry a manifold or a small housing.

## Design considerations
- Holes near a bend: Metal stretches at a bend, so a hole or slot placed too close distorts and moves off its position. How close a feature can sit depends on the material, thickness, and forming tooling.
- Flange length and radius: Short flanges and tight radii limit which tooling can form the part. On Z and U forms, step height and channel depth also depend on tooling clearance, so a tighter step changes the form.
- Gussets and welds: A weld beside a datum face pulls that face out of square as it cools, and a mounting face that moves no longer seats the component.
- Coating on seating faces: A coat of powder has thickness, so a component clamped to a coated flange sits a coat higher than the drawing shows, and a hole a bolt cleared bare can bind.
