# Custom Sectional Door Panel Components

https://kdisplay.com/products/door-access-systems/door-panels-sections

K-Display, a Chicago sheet metal fabricator, forms panel skins, end pieces, and reinforcement channels for sectional doors from your section drawings. Carbon steel channels are spot welded to carbon steel skins, inserts are installed, and the visible face is powder coated.

## Overview
We form the metal of a door section from aluminum, carbon steel, galvanized, or galvanneal sheet: the skin with its returned edges, the end pieces at each side, and the reinforcement channels behind the hardware locations. Carbon steel channels are spot welded to carbon steel skins, self-clinching inserts are installed, the visible face is powder coated, and the parts are packed with separators. Loose brackets and plates are garage door components, and brackets and plates joined into one unit are door subassemblies.

## Process
- Cut the blanks and fold: We laser cut each blank and form the skins, end pieces, and channels on the press brake.
- Weld and fit inserts: We spot weld each carbon steel channel to its skin, then install the self-clinching inserts.
- Mask, coat, and pack: We mask the insert threads, powder coat the visible face, and pack the panels.

## Typical parts
- Formed skins: Folded faces with returned edges and the openings the section needs.
- End pieces: Closures at each side of the section, cut with the strut and hinge attachment holes for the door model.
- Reinforcement channels: Formed channels behind each hardware location, spot welded to a carbon steel skin.

## Design considerations
- Returned edges: Adjoining sections meet along the returned edge. A return formed a little shallow leaves a gap along the full width of the section.
- Panel flatness: A long, thin skin bows when welding or cure heat reaches it unevenly. A bowed skin will not sit flat on its channel and shows as a wave on the finished door.
- Visible face: The outside face is the one the door buyer sees. Every hanging point on a coated part leaves a contact mark, and a mark or scratch on that face is a reject.
