K-Display, a Chicago sheet metal fabricator, welds sectional door brackets, mounting plates, and reinforcement channels into single units from your assembly drawing and bill of materials. Hardware is installed, the unit is powder coated, and each hand is marked.

## Overview
We build the joined units of a sectional door: a mounting plate with its brackets, its reinforcement channel, or both welded on. The parts are laser cut and formed from carbon steel or aluminum sheet, MIG or TIG welded, fitted with self-clinching nuts and studs, powder coated, and marked left and right. Brackets and plates supplied loose are garage door components, and a channel spot welded to a door skin is one of the sectional door panel components.

## Process
- Cut, form, and fit up: We laser cut and form the plate, brackets, and channel, then fit them together on the plate's hole pattern.
- Weld and fit hardware: We MIG or TIG weld the joints, then install self-clinching nuts and studs.
- Mask, coat, and mark: We mask the nut and stud threads, powder coat the unit, and mark each one L or R.

## Typical parts
- Bracket-and-plate units: One or more formed brackets welded to a mounting plate at the door section's hole pattern.
- Plate-and-channel units: A mounting plate with a reinforcement channel welded across it behind the hardware location.
- Bracket, plate, and channel units: A mounting plate carrying both the channel and its brackets.

## Design considerations
- Weld access: A torch cannot reach a joint that a nearby bracket already shadows, and the shadowed joint ends up short of a full weld.
- Datum fit-up: The bracket and the channel each locate from the plate's hole pattern. Fit them to different datums and the finished unit carries two hole sets that no longer agree.
- Hand: Left and right units are mirror images. A bracket welded on the wrong edge makes a unit that looks right and mounts only on the other side of the door.
