K-Display, a Chicago sheet metal fabricator, forms hoods, end covers, guide covers, and mounting plates for rolling steel doors from your door drawings. Parts leave with fasteners installed, bare or powder coated, and packed by door.

## Overview
A rolling door coils its curtain onto a barrel inside the hood, so the hood, end covers, and guide covers are sized to the fully wound curtain. We form those parts in aluminum, carbon steel, galvanized, or galvanneal sheet, cut the plates and brackets that carry them to the wall, install self-clinching fasteners in the covers, and leave the set bare or powder coated. The column and header covers of high-performance doors are high-performance door components.

## Process
- Cut: We laser cut the hood blank, end covers, and plates with the hole patterns for the wall brackets.
- Form and fit hardware: We form the long flanges first, then the returns, and install self-clinching fasteners.
- Mask, coat, and pack: We mask the fastener threads, powder coat the hood and covers, and pack the set by door.

## Typical parts
- Hoods: Formed hoods sized to the wound curtain, with returned edges and mounting flanges.
- End covers: Cover plates at each end of the hood, with the hole pattern for the wall bracket.
- Guide covers: Formed covers that run along the guide beside the wall.
- Mounting plates and brackets: Plates and brackets that carry the hood and end covers to the wall.

## Design considerations
- Springback: Springback opens every bend a little. On a deep flange, that small angle error becomes a gap at the wall or at the end cover.
- Curtain clearance: The curtain grows toward the hood's inside face as it winds onto the barrel. A hood formed shallow leaves less room than the drawing shows, and the wound curtain rubs it.
- Cover removal: Covers come off for barrel service. A fastener hidden behind a return cannot be reached, so the cover cannot come off.
