# Custom Outdoor Equipment Cabinets

K-Display, a Chicago sheet metal fabricator, builds outdoor equipment cabinets and pedestals from customer drawings, to the NEMA type the buyer names: gasketed doors, drip edges, sun shields, filter and fan frames, and base entry plates. Delivery is bare, powder coated, or door-hung.

## Overview
We build cabinet shells with gasketed doors, drip edges, sun-shield roofs, and frames for louvers, filters, and fans, with hinges and latches installed. Shells start as aluminum, galvanneal, galvanized steel, carbon steel, or stainless steel sheet, with aluminum, carbon steel, or stainless steel seam welds, and are powder coated. Delivery is bare, coated, or with the doors hung. We build a cabinet for battery modules as battery & energy storage enclosures.

## Process
- Cut and form: We laser cut the panels and openings and form the returns, drip edges, and gasket lands.
- Weld and dress: We weld the seams, choosing MIG or TIG for each joint, then blend welds and cut edges.
- Coat and hang the doors: We prepare the surface, mask the bare points, and powder coat. Then we install hinges, latches, and vent frames and hang the doors.

## Typical parts
- Pad-mount and floor-standing cabinets: Welded shells with a base plinth or channel, an anchor pattern, and lifting provisions.
- Pole-mount and wall-mount cabinets: Smaller shells with pole brackets, banding slots, or wall flanges.
- Pedestals and ground-set cabinets: Cabinets that take cable in from below through a base entry plate.
- Doors, roofs, and vent frames: Single or double doors with drip edges and overlaps, roof panels, and louver, filter, and fan frames.
- Base frames and entry plates: Base channels, brackets, and gland plates with the cable openings.

## Design considerations
- Gasket land and door overlap: The door seal depends on the gasket meeting a flat land under an even overlap, and weld distortion in a long door or frame lifts the door off the gasket. We sequence the welds for distortion.
- Openings and roof: Louver, filter, and fan cutouts and roof standoffs pass rain with the air unless a drip edge or frame surrounds them. We form those edges and frames and cut drain and weep holes where the roof slope sends water.
- Edges, welds, and recesses: Corrosion starts where the coating is thin. Powder is harder to lay into recesses and inside corners, and a rough weld or cut edge shows through the film.
- Mounting method: The mounting method sets the load path: anchor pattern on a pad, banding on a pole, flanges on a wall, lift points on the frame, so each needs its own base.
