K-Display, a Chicago sheet metal fabricator, makes fixed machine guards, hinged access panels, and interlock brackets from your machine frame drawings. Parts are laser cut, formed, and welded where a guard frame needs it, then powder coated with hinges, latches, and studs installed and kitted for each machine.

## Overview
We build fixed guards from solid or perforated sheet, hinged access panels that close off a moving mechanism and swing open to reach it, and the brackets that carry an interlock switch and its actuator. Parts are cut and formed from carbon steel, galvanized steel, galvannealed steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, with guard frames welded in carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, then powder coated and delivered with hinges, latches, and self-clinching studs installed, kitted for each machine. The outer panels and covers of a machine are machine housings & covers, and the guards over a co…

## Process
- Cut the openings, form the returns: We laser cut the panels, openings, and bracket slots and form the returns and flanges on a press brake.
- Weld frames and fit hardware: We weld guard frames and install hinges, latches, and self-clinching studs before any coating.
- Mask, coat, and label: We mask the mounting faces and threads, powder coat, then label and kit each machine's guards.

## Typical parts
- Fixed guards: Solid or perforated sheet barriers bolted to the machine frame through returns.
- Hinged access panels and doors: Hinged and lift-off panels with hinges, latches, and handles installed, sized to the opening they close.
- Interlock switch brackets: Slotted brackets that hold an interlock switch on the frame and its actuator on the panel, cut to the device maker's drawing.
- Guard frames and stand-off brackets: Welded or formed frames that hold a guard off the machine at a set stand-off.

## Design considerations
- Openings near returns: A perforation cut close to a bend pulls out of shape as the flange forms, and a distorted opening no longer matches the stand-off it was cut for.
- Attachment and edges: A guard is affixed to the machine's frame, and a burr or weld bead left on it is a hazard of its own. We cut guard mounting holes to your frame drawing, deburr every edge, and blend the welds.
- Hinge and latch: Hinge side and door travel decide what a panel clears when it opens. A cam latch needs enough grip, the distance that lets its cam engage behind the frame, or it cannot draw the panel closed.
