# Custom Vending Enclosures

K-Display, a Chicago sheet metal fabricator, builds welded cabinet shells, doors, device panels, and tray rails for vending OEMs from cabinet and module drawings. They ship bare or powder coated, with hinges and latches installed and the doors hung.

## Overview
K-Display builds the cabinet around the stock and the machinery: the welded shell, front and service doors, device panels with the window, payment, and collection openings, and the tray rails inside. We form and weld it in carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, hang the doors on their hinges and latches, and ship it bare or powder coated. The tray rails carry the stock, the device panels carry the payment and dispensing modules, and the shell carries both at the depth the modules need. Cabinets built around a screen and its devices are kiosk enclosures.

## Process
- Cut, press, and form: We laser cut the panels, door openings, and rail slots, press self-clinching hardware into the module plates and rail blanks, then form the shell, doors, and device panels.
- Weld the shell closed last: We weld the plates and rails into the shell while the torch can reach every joint, then weld the shell closed.
- Coat, hang the doors, and pack: We powder coat the cabinet with the hardware threads masked, or leave it bare, then hang the doors, fit the handles, and pack it with the tray rails in place.

## Typical parts
- Cabinet bodies and panels: Formed and welded shells, backs, and side panels.
- Doors and device panels: Front and service doors with the window, payment, control, and collection openings laser cut.
- Tray rails and module mounts: Rails, brackets, and plates that locate the trays and dispensing modules, with self-clinching hardware for their fasteners.
- Attachment holes and closure mounts: Base and wall attachment holes cut into the shell, and the hinge, latch, and handle mounting points on each door.

## Design considerations
- Payment device mounting: A coin or bill device mounts on holes at the rear, swings out for service, and has a lever that needs room to move. A panel that covers the swing path blocks the device from coming out for service.
- Collection opening: A shopper's hand goes into the collection opening for the product. The depth of the opening decides how close the hand gets to the trays behind it.
- Module weight on the rails: A loaded tray or spiral module rests on its rails and passes the weight into the side walls. A rail that bows under a full module leaves the tray out of level.
- Fastener access: A nut behind a formed flange is out of reach once a module sits on its rail. That module cannot be tightened down or removed for service without taking the rail apart.
