Custom Operator Consoles & HMI Enclosures

An operator console holds an HMI at the angle and height the operator works from, with room behind the face for clamps, connectors, and cable bend. K-Display builds operator consoles and HMI enclosures around the device's cutout drawing.

Operator consoles we build

Sloped HMI faces laser cut for the device and the pushbuttons beside it, in a body cut and formed from carbon steel, galvannealed steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, with side or rear access panels and a floor pedestal that has a cable passage. A console leaves the dock bare, powder coated, or assembled with the panels fitted and the legends silk-screened or labeled.

The devices wire back to control panel enclosures we make, and the field wiring lands in junction boxes we make.

Cables run from the HMI's rear connectors through the housing and out the pedestal passage. A turn tighter than a cable can bend leaves its connector under strain.

Operator console parts we make

Console and HMI bodies
Sloped formed or welded housings with the face angle, depth, and cable openings for your device.
Faceplates and bezels
Apertures for the HMI clamp and pushbutton holes in the face.
Access panels
Side and rear panels for removing the devices.
Pedestals
Floor pedestals with a cable passage and anchor pattern, welded to the console body.

Device, cable, and service access

Device cutout and clamp
An HMI mounts through one cutout size, and its clamps grip only within a range of panel thickness. A face gauge outside that range leaves the device loose or unable to clamp.
Space behind the face
Rear connectors, cable bend, and clamp bodies fill the space behind the aperture. A shallow housing pushes the cables against the walls.
Pedestal passage
Cables leave the console through the pedestal, so the passage has to clear the largest connector on the run. A passage sized for the cable alone stops the connector at the joint.
Service side
Devices are replaced with the console installed. An access panel on the wall side or the machine side cannot open without moving the console.

Cut the aperture, then form the slope

A cutout made in the flat blank has to land where the device sits once the face is bent to its slope.

  1. Cut the face

We laser cut the HMI aperture and pushbutton holes, then form the sloped face and body around them.

  2. Join to the pedestal

We weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum bodies to the pedestal, then install the studs, clinch nuts, and fasteners for the devices and access panels.

  3. Coat, mark, and fit

We powder coat the console, apply the legends and labels, and fit the panels to the pedestal for an assembled console.

Make room behind the screen

A display can fit its cutout while a nearby folded edge crowds the mounting hardware. In this rear view, the clamp sits beside the console’s formed return, and the connected cable curves down into the enclosure. Both need space beyond the display body.

Review this corner with the clamp and connector fitted, rather than checking the bare display alone. The selected device’s mounting instructions and the cable’s bend requirements determine the space to preserve when positioning the cutout and forming the surrounding metalwork.

Rear view inside a sloped operator console showing the HMI housing, a spring mounting clip beside an orange formed return, and a connected cable curving down into the enclosure.

The mounting clip and connected cable extend beyond the display body. Locate the cutout so both clear the folded return, with room for the cable to bend into the enclosure.
